Choosing an agency

Which are the best SEO agencies for small businesses in 2026? Eight compared on what you can check

Eight US SEO agencies that serve small businesses, compared on facts you can check: location, founding year, published prices and terms. Mavix is one of them.

No list can tell you which SEO agency is the best one for your small business, and this page does not try. It puts eight US agencies side by side on facts you can check yourself. Those facts are where each is based, when it started, how it serves small businesses, whether it publishes prices, and what it says about contracts.

We wrote this page and we are one of the agencies on it, so read our entry knowing that. The order is alphabetical. Nothing here ranks one agency above another. Every fact links to the page it came from, and each page was opened on 3 October 2026.

The short version

  • Eight US agencies that publicly offer SEO to small businesses are listed here in alphabetical order, with no ranking and no scores.
  • Four of the eight published a price or a price range on a page we opened on 3 October 2026: Searchbloom, The HOTH, Thrive and WebFX.
  • The published starting figures run from $500 a month, the low end of Thrive’s stated range, to $3,000 a month at Searchbloom and WebFX.
  • Where an agency’s site did not state a fact, the table says “not stated”. That means we did not find it, and the agency can still tell you.
  • Mavix Marketing wrote this page and is one of the eight entries. Mavix does not publish prices and quotes after a free review.
  • Google says no one can guarantee a first place ranking, so treat any such promise from any agency as a warning.

How were these agencies chosen, and what was checked?

We searched for US agencies that publicly offer SEO to small businesses, then opened each agency’s own website. We kept an agency only if its site opened and showed that it offers SEO to small or local businesses. The list mixes large general agencies with smaller ones.

For each one we recorded the same items: headquarters, founding year, how it serves small businesses, published prices, contract terms, and the source. Where the agency’s site did not state the city or year, we opened its Clutch profile and say so in the table.

Some things could not be checked. We did not test any agency’s work, speak to its clients, or see a contract. We did not compare review scores, because each platform counts reviews in its own way. Three sites would not open for us (Boostability, Coalition Technologies and Straight North), so those agencies are left out. That says nothing about them.

No agency paid to be here, and none was asked or told. Prices and terms change, so confirm every figure with the agency.

How do the eight small business SEO agencies compare?

The table holds only what each source page stated on 3 October 2026. “Not stated” means the pages we opened did not say.

The eight agencies, one at a time

HigherVisibility. HigherVisibility is in Memphis, Tennessee, and its about page gives 2009 as the founding year. That page names small businesses among its clients, along with larger companies and franchises. Its home page lists SEO, local SEO, ecommerce SEO, franchise SEO and link building. We found no prices or contract terms on the pages we opened.

LYFE Marketing. LYFE Marketing’s Clutch profile lists Atlanta, Georgia, and a 2011 founding year. Its local SEO page is titled for small businesses and describes custom SEO packages. The same site lists social media, pay per click, email and web design. The page we opened gave no price figures or contract terms.

Mavix Marketing. This is us, so weigh this entry accordingly. Mavix was founded in 2019 and has offices in Los Angeles, Dubai and New Delhi. We offer three services: SEO, paid ads and email. Our SEO work is described on the SEO and local SEO pages. Search work carries a written 90-day guarantee with conditions, and paid ads are billed per qualified lead. We do not publish prices. Our SEO pricing page explains that we quote after a free review.

OuterBox. OuterBox lists Akron, Ohio, first among its offices, and its about page gives 2004 as the founding year. Its small business SEO page covers technical SEO, content, local SEO, link building and reporting. That page is itself a comparison of agencies, and it discloses that OuterBox publishes it and is included. We found no prices or contract terms on it.

Searchbloom. Searchbloom is in South Jordan, Utah, and its Clutch profile gives 2014 as the founding year. Its home page says SEO services start at $3,000 a month and Google Ads management starts at $2,000 a month. Its company page names small businesses among those it serves. The pages we opened did not state contract terms.

The HOTH. The HOTH is in St. Petersburg, Florida, and its about page gives 2010 as the founding year. Its home page names local businesses among its customers. Its managed SEO service, HOTH X, lists four monthly plans on the HOTH X page: $1,000, $2,500, $5,000 and $10,000. The page describes them as recurring monthly. We did not find a minimum term.

Thrive Internet Marketing Agency. Thrive’s home page says its headquarters is in Arlington, Texas, and that it has been in business since 2005. It says it works with clients of all sizes, from startups to multi-location companies. Its SEO pricing page gives ranges in place of fixed packages. It says SEO can cost $500 to $10,000 or more a month, and local SEO $500 to $1,500. It mentions month to month contracts.

WebFX. WebFX was founded in 1995 (WebFX about page) and has headquarters in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania (WebFX contact page). Its small business SEO page lists audits, keyword research, content, on-page and technical SEO, and reporting. That page gives a starting price of $3,000 a month for custom SEO plans. Contract terms were not stated on the pages we opened.

What should a small business ask before hiring an SEO agency?

Ask for specifics you can check, and be wary of promised rankings. Google’s guidance on hiring an SEO says “No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google” (Google Search Central). The same page lists questions to ask. They include whether the agency follows Google Search Essentials, what results it expects and in what timeframe, and how long it has been in business.

Price needs the same care. A starting price tells you the floor. It does not tell you what your site needs. Two agencies quoting $3,000 a month may be describing very different amounts of work, so ask for the scope in writing.

How to choose between them

Start with what you need. A single shop that wants more local calls has a different shortlist from an online store selling nationwide. Then put the same questions to each agency and write the answers down.

  1. What does it cost each month, what is the setup fee, and what is the minimum term?
  2. What exactly will you do in the first 30 days?
  3. Who owns the website, Search Console, analytics and the Google Business Profile if we part ways?
  4. Where will links to our site come from?
  5. What is the first number on your monthly report?
  6. Can we see a real report from a small business client, with the name removed?

Our 20 questions to ask an agency go further, and you should use them on us too.

The bottom line

A list cannot pick an agency for you. What it can do is show which facts each agency puts in public and which ones you have to ask for. Shortlist two or three, ask each the same questions, and compare the written answers. Choose on what you can verify.

Questions people ask about this

Which SEO agency is best for a small business?

There is no single answer, and this page does not rank the eight. The right fit depends on your budget, your market and what your site needs. Use the table to shortlist, then compare written answers.

How much does SEO cost for a small business?

It varies by agency and scope. On 3 October 2026, The HOTH listed managed SEO from $1,000 a month. Searchbloom and WebFX listed starting prices of $3,000 a month. Thrive’s pricing page gave a range that begins at $500 a month.

Do these agencies require long contracts?

Thrive’s pricing page mentions month to month contracts, and The HOTH describes its managed plans as recurring monthly. Mavix is month to month with 30 days notice. The other sites did not state terms on the pages we opened.

Why is Mavix on its own comparison page?

Because leaving ourselves out would hide who wrote it. We wrote this page and we are one of the agencies on it. Our entry uses the same fields as the others and sits where the alphabet puts it.

Why do some rows say “not stated”?

It means the pages we opened on 3 October 2026 did not state that fact. It does not mean the agency has no answer. Ask the agency directly, and ask for the answer in writing.

Did any agency pay to be listed?

No. No agency paid, and none was asked or told about this page. Agencies whose websites would not open for us were left out, which is the only reason they are missing.

Can an SEO agency guarantee a first place ranking?

Google says no. Its guidance on hiring an SEO states that no one can guarantee a number one ranking on Google. Ask instead what results the agency expects and in what timeframe.
