HVAC local SEO
Somebody two miles from your shop searched for AC repair and saw three other companies on the map. Your profile lists you as a heating contractor, shows an address nobody visits, and last had a review in the winter. None of that is about your website.

The local searches in this trade are short and typed on a phone: “ac repair near me”, “furnace repair [town]”, “hvac company open now”, “heat pump service near me”. Google answers with a map and three businesses. Above that sit the Local Services Ads. The ordinary website results start a full screen lower.
Google says the map results come down to three things: relevance, distance and prominence. The same page says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. You cannot move your shop closer to the searcher. You can make the profile match what was searched, and you can become better known. That is the whole job.
The profile describes half the business. A company set up as a heating contractor that added cooling later often still has a profile that only talks about furnaces. Google matches a search to what the profile says the business is. Its guidelines tell you to choose categories that complete the statement “This business IS a”, and to use as few as it takes to describe the core business.
The address is a shop no customer visits. You go to the customer. For that, Google says to remove your address from your Business Profile and list service areas. You can list up to 20. The whole area should sit within about two hours of driving from your base.
A second profile at a rented mailbox. It is tempting to open a listing in the next city to get around distance. Google’s guidelines say a virtual office you do not operate from is not eligible for a Business Profile. A suspended listing in July costs more than the extra city was worth.
Reviews arrive in two bursts a year. Peak season produces reviews. The shoulder months produce none, so the profile looks quiet for half the year. Tune-up visits in spring and autumn are calm, booked ahead, and a good moment to ask.
| Profile section | What we set for an HVAC company | Why it matters for this trade |
|---|---|---|
| Primary category | The one that describes most of your work | Google matches the search to it first |
| Other categories | Only the ones that are truly the business | Google says not to use categories as keywords |
| Services | Each system and job listed: AC repair, furnace install, heat pump service, tune-ups | Covers both seasons on one profile |
| Address and service areas | Address removed if nobody visits, up to 20 areas | Keeps the listing inside Google’s rules |
| Hours | The hours a person answers the phone | “Open now” has to be true at 9pm |
| Photos | Your vans, your team, real installs | Shows a real local company |
| Licence number | In the description and on the site | A homeowner can look it up |
The licence line deserves a note. The Bureau of Labor Statistics says nearly all HVAC technicians need EPA certification to handle refrigerants, and that some states and localities require a licence on top. In Texas, for example, contractors who install, repair or maintain these systems must hold a state licence. Showing the number where a homeowner can check it is cheap proof.
Google’s review policy is specific. A business may not offer payment, discounts, free goods or services for a review. It may not ask only happy customers, which the policy calls selectively soliciting positive reviews. So the free filter in exchange for five stars has to go.
What works inside the rules is a text with the review link, sent to every customer the same day the technician leaves. Our review generation guide has the wording. Replies matter too. Google’s page on local ranking lists reviews and helpful replies among the things that help a profile.
Reviews also feed your paid results. Google ranks Local Services Ads partly on rating and number of reviews, and you need a verified profile to run them at all. That link is why we treat HVAC Google Ads and the profile as one piece of work.
Month one. You get a written audit of the profile against Google’s guidelines, plus a list of every place your name, address and phone number appear online and where they disagree. Categories, services, hours and service areas are corrected.
Month two. The site gets a page for each main service that the profile can point to, with the phone number as tappable text. Business details are marked up in the format Google reads, using the most specific business type available. The review request starts going out after every job.
Month three. Listings on the directories that matter are corrected. Photos from recent installs are added each week. You see the first comparison of calls and direction requests from the profile.
Before each season. The services and the profile posts are turned toward the system people are about to need. Cooling goes to the front in spring, heating in early autumn.
No Mavix price appears here, because it depends on the review. We quote in writing afterwards. The things that move it are the number of locations, how many duplicate or wrong listings need fixing, and whether the site needs service pages built. Our post on local SEO cost in 2026 explains the range across the market, and the SEO pricing page sets out how we quote.
Seasonal demand makes one month look like a triumph and the next like a collapse. The year on year view is the fair one.
If the profile is suspended, getting it reinstated comes before everything on this page.
If you need the phone to ring this week, paid search is faster. The profile work pays over months.
If you want households that are planning a replacement, they read cost and sizing pages before they look at a map. That is HVAC SEO. The local SEO service page covers the method for any business, and the HVAC marketing page shows where it sits beside the other work.

Not accounts in this trade. Two service businesses that sell through enquiries and calls, which is the same way this trade sells.
