Cleaning company Google Ads

Google Ads for cleaning companies that pay for contracts, not job seekers

You bid on the word cleaning and the search terms report fills with cleaning jobs hiring, cleaning supplies and how to clean grout. A click from an office manager and a click from a job seeker cost you the same. Only one of them can sign a contract.

Two cleaning businesses inside one ad account

A homeowner searching “house cleaners near me” wants a price and a date. A property manager searching “commercial cleaning services for office” wants a walk-through, a proposal and references. Both searches contain the word cleaning, and Google will happily show one ad to both.

The fix starts with the structure. One campaign for commercial work, one for recurring house cleaning, and a third for one-off jobs only if you want them. Each gets its own budget, so the frequent, cheap search cannot eat the money meant for contracts. The cleaning services marketing page covers how the two kinds of buyer decide.

Where cleaning ad budgets leak

Read your search terms report, which lists what people typed before they clicked. In a cleaning account these are the leaks to look for.

  • Job seekers. “Cleaning jobs near me” and “office cleaner hiring” match a broad cleaning keyword.
  • Shoppers. Supplies, vacuums, floor machines and product names.
  • DIY. “How to clean” followed by anything.
  • Other towns. Google’s default location setting is Presence or interest, which includes people who only showed interest in your area (Google Ads Help). Switch to Presence so ads reach people who are there.
  • The wrong size of job. A single apartment arriving through the commercial campaign.

Negative keywords are how you block the first three. Google notes that negatives do not match close variants, so “job” does not block “jobs”. Add both. Our negative keywords guide has a method for building the list.

House cleaning is also an eligible category for Local Services Ads, where Google says you pay only for leads related to your services. Run it beside the house cleaning campaign and compare cost per booked clean.

The first 90 days of the account

Week one. Tracking is checked before a dollar is spent. A call from an ad, a submitted quote form and a booked walk-through are each recorded as a lead. A page view is not. The form gains a job type field.

Weeks two to four. Campaigns go live on exact and phrase keywords only. The search terms report is read twice a week and negatives are added each time. Ads say what the buyer checks: insured, background-checked staff, the sectors you serve.

Month two. Keywords that produced leads get more budget. Keywords that produced only clicks are paused. Landing pages are edited where people call with questions the page should have answered.

Month three. You get cost per walk-through and cost per booked clean by campaign. That is when the budget split between commercial and domestic is decided on evidence.

What clicks and leads cost

Nobody publishes a search ad benchmark for cleaning alone, and we will not make one up. The nearest rows in LocaliQ’s 2026 report are these (LocaliQ search advertising benchmarks):

  • Home and Home Improvement: $8.33 average cost per click and $90.92 average cost per lead.
  • Business Services: $5.87 average cost per click and $93.69 average cost per lead.
  • All industries: $5.42 average cost per click and $66.69 average cost per lead.

Read them as an order of magnitude. Each advertiser in that data defined a lead for itself. Our post on cost per lead benchmarks explains why the average is a poor target.

Set your own ceiling from your numbers. If an office contract is worth $1,500 a month and one walk-through in four signs, you can afford far more per lead than for a $180 move-out clean. The Google Ads return calculator does that sum.

Mavix states no management price here. We quote after a free review of the account, and the ads pricing page sets out how the fee is worked out.

What the monthly report shows

You get the figures an owner can act on:

  • Spend, leads and cost per lead for each campaign, with your brand name kept apart.
  • Walk-throughs booked and contracts signed from ads, where you tell us the outcome.
  • Leads for work you do not want, counted so the search behind them can be blocked.
  • The ten searches that cost the most and what each returned.

When Google Ads is the wrong first move

Ads suit a cleaning company that can answer the phone and send a quote the same day. If quotes go out three days later, fix that first, because the lead has hired someone else by then.

If you cannot staff new work for a month, pause. If you want contract searches to keep arriving without a click fee, build the sector pages described under SEO for cleaning companies alongside the ads.

When the account already exists and the leads are poor, start with the search terms report. Send us access and we will review the Google Ads account and say what we would switch off first.

Questions

Questions owners ask about this

01 How much do Google Ads cost for a cleaning company?
There is no published benchmark for cleaning alone. The LocaliQ 2026 report gives 8.33 dollars a click for Home and Home Improvement and 5.87 dollars for Business Services. Your own figure depends on the city and on how tightly the keywords are chosen.
02 Should commercial and house cleaning share one campaign?
No. They have different keywords, different ads, different landing pages and very different values per lead. In one campaign the budget drifts to the cheaper, more frequent search, which is the one-off domestic job.
03 Are Local Services Ads worth it for a cleaning business?
They are worth testing for house cleaning. Google lists house cleaning as an eligible category and charges per lead instead of per click. Leads there are matched by service category and area, so commercial contract searches still need a search campaign.
04 Which negative keywords does a cleaning company need?
Start with jobs, hiring, salary, careers, supplies, products, machine, rental, how to, DIY and franchise. Then read the search terms report every week, because Google says negatives do not cover close variants.
05 How fast will the ads bring quote requests?
Ads can show the day the campaign is approved. The first two to four weeks are for learning which searches produce real quote requests. Judge commercial campaigns over a longer window, because a contract takes weeks to sign.
06 Does Mavix publish a price for managing cleaning company ads?
No price is given here. Mavix quotes after a free review of the account, because the work depends on how many campaigns and towns are involved. The ads pricing page explains how the fee is set.
