Plumbing Google Ads
You paid for the click at 11pm, the caller got voicemail, and the report still counted it as a lead. A plumbing ad account is a way of buying phone calls. Whether those calls become jobs is decided by the hours the ads run and who is there to answer.

Right now. “emergency plumber”, “plumber near me open now”, “burst pipe repair”, “clogged main drain”. These are typed on a phone and end in a call inside a few minutes. The ad needs a number to tap and a person on the other end.
Sometime this month. “water heater installation”, “tankless water heater installer”, “repipe estimate”, “sewer camera inspection”. These people click through, read, and fill in a form or call during office hours. They want a quote.
The two behave so differently that they need separate campaigns, separate budgets and separate hours. Left together, the emergency clicks take the money by mid-morning and the water heater ads stop showing. The split is step one in our Google Ads account structure guide.
Ads run when nobody answers. The Bureau of Labor Statistics notes that plumbers are often on call for emergencies, including evenings and weekends. If your on-call cover stops at midnight, so should the emergency ads. If it is one person in a crawl space, the calls need to forward to someone who can talk.
A tap is recorded as a call. Google offers several ways to count calls. One measures clicks on a phone number, not actual calls. Another counts calls from ads above a length you set. An account trained on taps will go and find more taps.
The budget buys parts shoppers. “plumbing supply near me”, “toilet flapper replacement”, “p-trap diagram” and “plumber apprenticeship” all match loosely to plumbing keywords. Google’s search terms report shows the actual searches that triggered your ads. We read it weekly and add what does not belong. Our negative keywords guide has a starting list.
The emergency campaign is still built on call-only ads. Google’s help page says the options to create new call ads were removed in February 2026, and existing ones stop serving by February 2027. The replacement is a normal search ad with your number attached as a call asset.
Planned work lands on the homepage. Someone who searched for tankless installation and arrived on a page about 24 hour emergencies will go back and click the next ad.
Local Services Ads sit above the ordinary search ads and are charged by the lead. Google describes it as paying only for leads related to your business and the services you offer. For emergency plumbing this is the first thing we set up.
Three points matter for a plumber.
Our post comparing Local Services Ads with Google Ads covers when to run both.
The figures below are from LocaliQ’s home services search advertising benchmarks. They cover 3,211 US search campaigns between April 2024 and March 2025.
| Measure | Plumbing | All home services |
|---|---|---|
| Click-through rate | 4.97% | 6.37% |
| Cost per click | $10.49 | $7.85 |
| Conversion rate | 7.63% | 7.33% |
| Cost per lead | $129.02 | $90.92 |
Plumbing clicks cost more than the home services average and convert slightly better. The lead figure counts calls and forms. It does not know whether the call was answered or the job was booked, so your cost per job sits above it. Every unanswered call pushes your real figure further above the table.
What moves your own number: the size of your metro, how many national franchises bid there, the hours you run, and the split between emergency and planned searches. Google’s auction also weighs ad and landing page quality, so a higher bid alone does not decide position.
Mavix does not list a management price on this page. We quote after a free review, and the ads pricing page explains the basis. You can run the table’s figures against your own job values in the Google Ads ROI calculator.
Days one to seven. We call your tracking number at different hours and note who answers. You get the list of searches the account paid for last quarter, marked keep or block. Call counting is changed to connected calls over a set length.
Weeks two to four. Emergency and planned campaigns are separated. Emergency ads are scheduled to your real answering hours and limited to people physically inside the service area. The Local Services application is submitted with licence and insurance documents.
Months two and three. Each planned service gets its own ad group and landing page, starting with water heaters. Bids move toward the searches that produced booked work, which needs your office to record the outcome of each call.
Cold snaps. When a hard freeze is forecast, the emergency budget is raised ahead of it and “frozen pipe” terms are switched on. They go off again when the weather passes.
If a large share of calls already goes to voicemail, buy an answering service before you buy clicks.
If you serve one small town and the map already shows you first, your Google Business Profile may be doing the work. Plumbing local SEO is the work that protects that position.
If you want quoted work and can wait a quarter, plumbing SEO builds pages that keep bringing quote requests. The plumbing marketing page and the Google Ads service page cover the rest.
