Electrician Google Ads
An electrician pays more for a click than the average home services firm, and the same budget can buy forty outlet repairs or six panel upgrades. Which one you get depends on how the account is split, when the ads run and who picks up the phone.

Paid search for an electrical firm starts with a sort. Some searches are a job tonight, some are a job next month, and some will never be a job.
The blocked group is larger in this trade than owners expect. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects about 72,700 openings for electricians each year, and the people chasing those jobs type the same word your customers do.
Search campaigns charge per click. You choose the searches, write the ad and send the visitor to a page.
Pay-per-lead ads are what used to be called Local Services Ads. Google started moving US electrical advertisers into Google Ads in August 2026, as Performance Max campaigns with pay-per-lead goals. The ads keep the same positions on Search and Maps, and you still pay for valid leads such as calls and messages.
To run them you need a verified Google Business Profile and you have to pass screening. For US electricians Google lists a state-level business license, a state-level owner license and general liability insurance. Position depends on your bid and on responsiveness, rating, review count and response time. A firm that misses calls drops down the list. There is a longer comparison in Local Services Ads vs Google Ads.
Emergency ads running to voicemail. Google’s default is to show ads “All day”. An emergency campaign with no schedule spends at 2am whether or not anyone answers.
Call-only ads left in place. New ones could not be created after February 2026, and existing ones stop showing in February 2027. Accounts built on them need responsive search ads with call assets before that date.
Calls from towns you do not cover. The location setting has two options, presence, or presence and interest. The wider one can show your ad to someone who only searched about your area.
One campaign for every job. Small repair searches are the most common, so they take the budget first. The panel and EV charger searches get what is left.
Thin negative lists. Google states that negative keywords do not match close variants. Blocking “job” does not block “jobs”. The negative keywords guide has the full method.
| Job type | Example search | Ad format | Where the click lands | What you count |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Emergency | “emergency electrician near me” | Search ad with a call asset, plus pay-per-lead | A short page with the number and the hours answered | Answered calls and dispatched jobs |
| Panel and service upgrades | “200 amp panel upgrade” | Search ad | A page on the permit, the utility and the timeline | Quote requests and quotes accepted |
| EV chargers | “EV charger installation” plus a town | Search ad | A page by charger type with photographs | Site visits booked |
| Generators | “standby generator installer” | Search ad, heavier before storm season | A page on sizing and brands | Quote requests |
| Commercial | “commercial electrical contractor” | Search ad on its own budget | A page with license, insurance and references | Bid requests |
LocaliQ’s home services report covers 3,211 US search campaigns between April 2024 and March 2025. It puts electricians at $12.18 a click, a 9.08% conversion rate and $93.69 a lead. The same report gives the home services average as $7.85 a click and $90.92 a lead.
So an electrician pays more per click than the average trade and gets a lead from more of those clicks. A lead is a call or a form and not a booked job. As plain arithmetic, if one lead in three becomes a job, a $93.69 lead is about $281 of ad spend per job. That is an example of the sum, not a forecast for your account.
What moves your number: the city, the job type, how fast the phone is answered and how well the page matches the search. Put your own figures into the Google Ads ROI calculator. We do not state a management fee here. Mavix quotes after a free review, and the ads pricing page shows how the work is priced.
Weeks one and two. Call and form tracking is checked first, so the account learns from real leads. Campaigns are split by job type and the schedule is matched to answered hours.
Month one. The search terms report is read every few days and the negative list grows. Landing pages are built or fixed for the two jobs you most want.
Months two and three. Budget moves toward the job types that turn into booked work. Pay-per-lead ads are set up or cleaned up, with the license and insurance documents current.
You see cost per booked job by job type, alongside the missed-call rate in and out of hours. Cost per lead is reported too, but as the second number. A cheap lead for a job you did not want is still money spent.
If nobody can answer the phone during the hours the ads run, fix that first. If the budget is smaller than the cost of two jobs a month, there is too little data to steer by.
If you want panel and EV charger work for years, build the pages as well. That is SEO for electricians, and it lowers what you depend on paid clicks for. The map results are covered in local SEO for electricians, and the trade as a whole on the electrical contractors page. How we run accounts is on the Google Ads service page.

Not accounts in this trade. Two service businesses that sell through enquiries and calls, which is the same way this trade sells.
