Cleaning company local SEO

Local SEO for cleaning companies with crews on the road and no storefront

You run the business from a spare room and the crews go to the customer. Google Maps was built around storefronts. So your listing shows a home address you would rather hide, covers towns you do not staff, and sits below a franchise that opened last year.

The searches that end in the map

“House cleaning near me”. “Maid service” plus the town. “Office cleaners” plus the suburb. “Carpet cleaning open Saturday”. These searches show a map and three businesses before any website. For recurring domestic work, that box is where the customer chooses.

Commercial buyers use it differently. An office manager who searches “commercial cleaning company” plus the city reads the map results to build a shortlist, then visits each site. So the listing has to get you onto the list, and the site has to do the rest. The cleaning services marketing page describes that longer path.

The rules for a cleaning company with no storefront

A cleaning firm is what Google calls a service-area business: one that visits customers and does not serve them at its own address. Four rules follow, and breaking any of them puts the listing at risk.

  • One profile. A business that travels to customers is allowed one service-area profile, with the address hidden (Google Business Profile guidelines).
  • No virtual offices. The same guidelines say a rented mailing address where you do not operate is not eligible.
  • A real name. The business name must be your real one. Adding “house cleaning Dallas” to it breaks the rule on keywords in names.
  • A realistic area. You can list up to 20 service areas, within about two hours of driving from your base (Google’s service area help).

If you rent a staffed office where customers can walk in, you are a hybrid business and can show the address. A storage unit does not count.

How Google picks the three

Google says local results rest on relevance, distance and prominence, and that there is no way to pay for a better local ranking. Distance is fixed by where you are based and where the searcher stands. The other two are the work.

Our Google Business Profile guide walks through each field.

Reviews for a business built on trust in someone’s home

A cleaning customer is letting a stranger into the house. Reviews that mention the cleaner by first name, arriving on time and the same person coming back do more than a star count.

Google’s policy sets the limits. You may not offer payment, discounts or free services for a review, and you may not ask only the customers you expect to be happy (Google Maps contributed content policy). Ask everyone, by text, the day after the clean. Ask commercial clients at the first quarterly check-in.

Reply to each review in your own words. Our review generation guide has the wording and the timing.

Month by month

Month one. The profile is claimed, verified and corrected: name, categories, hours, service areas and services. Duplicate listings are found and reported. Your name, phone and website are made to match on the directories that matter.

Month two. A review request goes into the routine after each job. The website gets a page for each town you staff, written with what is true there: which days a crew is in that town and what work you do there.

Month three onward. Photos are added monthly. Questions from customers are answered on the site. The listing is checked weekly for changes you did not make.

What local SEO costs a cleaning company

Mavix does not print a price here. We quote after a free review of the listing and the site.

As market context, the Ahrefs survey of SEO providers reported an average local SEO retainer of $1,557 a month, with agencies at $1,819 (Ahrefs SEO pricing survey). That average covers every trade. A single-city cleaning firm with one profile sits at the simple end of local work. Several branches with real offices cost more, because each has its own profile and pages.

The SEO pricing page explains how we set the fee. To see what a booked clean is worth against the spend, use the lead generation calculator.

What you see each month

  • Calls and messages from the profile, as reported by Google.
  • Website visits and direction requests from the listing.
  • Quote requests from the town pages, by job type.
  • Reviews gained, the average rating and any left unanswered.
  • Where you appear in the map results for your main searches, from several points in your area.

That last one matters for a cleaning firm. Rank is different on each side of town, so one position number hides more than it shows.

When local SEO is not the first job

If the phone needs to ring this week, start with Google Ads for cleaning companies. A map listing takes weeks to move.

If your growth depends on office and medical contracts across a metro, the map results are only part of it. Those buyers read sector pages, which is the work described under SEO for cleaning companies.

If the listing is suspended, nothing else comes first. Send it to us and our local SEO team will say what triggered it and what Google will want to see.

Questions

Questions owners ask about this

01 Can a cleaning business run from home have a Google Business Profile?
Yes. Google allows one service-area profile for a business that travels to its customers. Its guidelines say to hide the address in that case. You then list the towns or ZIP codes you serve.
02 How many service areas can a cleaning company list?
Up to 20. Google also says the whole area should be within about two hours of driving from your base. List the towns you can staff this month, and add more when you have a crew for them.
03 Can we use a virtual office to show up in a second city?
No. The Google guidelines say a rented mailing address where you do not operate is not eligible for a profile. A listing that breaks the guidelines can be removed, and its reviews go with it.
04 Can we offer a discount for a Google review?
No. Google prohibits incentives such as payment, discounts or free services in exchange for a review. It also prohibits asking only happy customers. Ask every customer the same way, after the job.
05 Why does a competitor outrank us in the map results?
Google names three things: relevance, distance and prominence. You cannot move your base, so the work is on categories, services, reviews and the website behind the listing. Google also says you cannot pay for a better local ranking.
06 What does local SEO cost for a cleaning company?
Mavix quotes after a free review, so there is no price here. As market context, the Ahrefs survey of SEO providers reported an average local SEO retainer of 1,557 dollars a month.
