Atlanta the city is a twelfth of Atlanta the market

The Atlanta, Sandy Springs and Roswell metro had 6,482,182 residents on July 1, 2025, after adding 61,953 in a year (Census Bureau). The city of Atlanta had 529,110, up from 500,086 in 2020 (Census Bureau city and town estimates).

On our arithmetic the city is about 8 percent of the metro. Eleven of every twelve possible customers live somewhere with a different name on the envelope.

The metro had 163,103 employer establishments in 2023, with 2,692,513 paid employees (County Business Patterns). Of those, 97,111 had fewer than five employees. We checked that row against the Census file for our post on US business counts by market.

Inside the Perimeter and outside it

People in Atlanta describe where they are by Interstate 285, the Perimeter. Inside it, searches carry neighbourhood names: Buckhead, Midtown, Old Fourth Ward, Virginia-Highland, West Midtown, Grant Park and East Atlanta. Outside it, they carry a city or a county: Cobb, Gwinnett, north Fulton, DeKalb.

Source: the Census Bureau city and town estimates linked above. The table shows something a suburb-first plan can miss. The city grew by about 29,000 in five years, while Sandy Springs, Roswell and Johns Creek each lost residents.

No suburb here is large. Sandy Springs, the biggest, has 105,013 people. So an Atlanta business that wants the suburbs needs several of them, and each has its own local results. Google names relevance, distance and prominence as the factors (Google Business Profile Help). Our rule of thumb is to build for the two or three suburbs where you already have jobs and reviews, then add one at a time.

What the Atlanta area employs people in

The Atlanta area had 3,105,100 nonfarm jobs in August 2026, which was 14,300 fewer than a year earlier (Bureau of Labor Statistics). Trade, transportation and utilities was the largest group at 644,300. Professional and business services employed 563,900 and lost 6,700 jobs in the year. Education and health services employed 475,900 and gained 10,000.

Two smaller lines matter for marketing. Information employed 100,700, more than double the figure for the Austin area on the BLS summary for that metro. Financial activities employed 208,000.

That points to a large base of firms selling to other firms. Our managed IT services marketing page covers that sale. Professional practices are the other group, and law firm marketing is the page for them. For home trades, see HVAC marketing.

What makes Atlanta costly, and where it is cheaper

Atlanta sits in the middle of the cities we have measured. The metro has about 26 employer establishments per 1,000 residents, on our arithmetic from the Census figures. Miami has about 35 and Dallas-Fort Worth about 23.

The cost in Atlanta comes from spread more than density, in our view. The BLS summary alone lists Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb and Gwinnett counties, and the metro reaches well beyond them. A campaign set to “Atlanta” in Google Ads can show to people an hour away. Clicks from places you will not drive to are the main waste we would look for.

The job figures add a caution. Professional and business services lost 6,700 jobs in a year, so a firm selling to other firms here should check search demand before raising a budget.

For a national reference, the 2026 benchmark for legal searches is $9.87 a click and $131.63 a lead. Business services run $5.87 a click and $93.69 a lead (LocaliQ). Keyword Planner, set to your counties, gives the local number.

Georgia licensing boards and what they mean for ads

Georgia licenses construction trades through boards at the Secretary of State’s office. One board covers residential and commercial general contractors. The same licensing division lists separate boards for electrical contractors, plumbers, conditioned air contractors and low voltage contractors.

If your trade is on that list, have the licence ready before you advertise. Google asks for a licence, or a business registration where none is required, before Local Services Ads go live (Google Local Services Help). Those are the ads at the very top of a search for a plumber or an electrician.

We have not found a Georgia state privacy law on the scale of the California or Texas acts, and we are not lawyers. If you collect health or payment details, ask one before adding ad tracking.

How we work with an Atlanta business

Mavix is based in Los Angeles. There is no Atlanta office, no Atlanta staff and no named Atlanta client we can point you to. All of the work is remote, and we would rather say that here than have you find out on a call.

First you get a free written review. We read your Search Console data, sort searches for your name from searches by strangers, and list the pages that should exist and do not. The keyword clustering tool does a rough version of that grouping if you want to try it.

Then the work starts: SEO for the site and local SEO for the profile, reviews and suburb pages. The baseline is taken in your own accounts. We serve Miami the same way, and the locations page has the rest.

What to check before hiring an agency in Atlanta

  • Ask which counties the ads would show in, and ask to see the location settings.
  • Ask how many suburb pages they plan and what real content goes on each.
  • Ask whether rankings are checked from your office or from the suburbs you want.
  • Ask who holds the logins for the profile, the site and the ad account.
  • Ask what the price depends on. Our page on how SEO pricing is set lists the factors we use.

Questions

Questions owners ask about this

01 Does Mavix have an Atlanta office?
No. Our one US office is in Los Angeles. We have no staff in Atlanta and no named Atlanta clients. We work with Atlanta businesses remotely.
02 How big is the Atlanta market?
The Atlanta, Sandy Springs and Roswell metro had 6,482,182 residents in July 2025 on Census Bureau estimates. The city of Atlanta had 529,110. The metro had 163,103 employer establishments in 2023.
03 What do ITP and OTP mean for local search?
They are local shorthand for inside and outside the Perimeter, which is Interstate 285. For search it is a useful split. Neighbourhood names are searched inside the loop, and city and county names outside it.
04 Which Georgia trades are licensed by the state?
The Georgia Secretary of State runs boards for residential and commercial general contractors, electrical contractors, plumbers and conditioned air contractors, among others. Check your trade on the state site before advertising.
05 Is the Atlanta job market growing?
Not in the latest figures. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported 3,105,100 nonfarm jobs in August 2026, down 14,300 on a year earlier. Education and health services was the group that grew.
06 How is a price set for Atlanta SEO work?
By the state of the site and the number of areas you serve. We publish no figure. The quote comes in writing after the free review.
