How much do Facebook and Instagram ads cost in 2026?
Facebook and Instagram lead ads cost a median $27.39 a lead in the US in 2026. CPM, click and lead costs by industry, sensible budgets and management fees.
Facebook and Instagram ads cost a median of $27.39 a lead and $1.80 a click on lead campaigns in the US in 2026. Campaigns that only send traffic to a website pay a median of $0.60 a click. Those figures are from the 2026 Facebook ads benchmarks published by LocaliQ with WordStream (LocaliQ).
Meta, which owns both apps, has no price list. You set a budget, and an auction decides what each view, click and lead costs. This post covers the three prices you will see in the account, what moves them, the smallest budget that makes sense and what management costs.
The short version
- Lead campaigns on Facebook and Instagram had a median cost per lead of $27.39 and a median cost per click of $1.80 in the 2026 LocaliQ and WordStream benchmarks of US campaigns.
- Traffic campaigns in the same report had a median cost per click of $0.60, down from $0.70 a year earlier.
- Cost per lead by industry runs from $12.30 for Career and Employment to $61.56 for Dentists and Dental Services in that report.
- Meta’s average cost per thousand views was between $7.67 and $8.62 in each month from January to September 2025, in Gupta Media’s tracker of its own campaigns.
- Meta says an ad set usually leaves its learning phase after about 50 results in a week, which is the figure to plan a budget around.
- Mavix does not publish a price for managing Meta ads. Mavix quotes after a free review of the account.
What do Facebook and Instagram ads cost per click and per lead?
It depends on what you ask the campaign to do. A traffic campaign buys clicks at a median of $0.60. A leads campaign buys form fills, messages and calls, and its clicks cost a median of $1.80 with a median cost per lead of $27.39 (LocaliQ).
| Industry, 2026 leads campaigns | Cost per click | Conversion rate | Cost per lead |
|---|---|---|---|
| All industries in the report | $1.80 | 8.54% | $27.39 |
| Dentists and Dental Services | $5.70 | 6.07% | $61.56 |
| Beauty and Personal Care | $2.97 | 5.63% | $50.91 |
| Home and Home Improvement | $2.18 | 5.32% | $42.95 |
| Personal Services | $1.62 | 6.61% | $38.09 |
| Physicians and Surgeons | $1.68 | 6.41% | $32.14 |
| Health and Fitness | $1.84 | 7.98% | $27.11 |
| Education and Instruction | $1.72 | 15.87% | $26.31 |
| Real Estate | $1.27 | 9.95% | $13.74 |
| Career and Employment | $0.73 | 5.38% | $12.30 |
Treat the industry rows as rough. WordStream’s note on the data says the traffic figures come from 1,377 US campaigns and the leads figures from 452 US campaigns, running from April 2025 (WordStream). A leads category can hold as few as 4 campaigns. The “averages” are medians. The end dates printed in that note contain a typing error, so we have not quoted them.
A second dataset gives a lower click price. AgencyAnalytics reports a Meta Ads cost per click of $0.39 for 2025, from the client accounts of more than 7,000 agencies on its platform (AgencyAnalytics). That page does not split the figure by campaign goal or country. It sits closer to the $0.60 traffic figure than to the $1.80 leads figure, which is what you would expect if it mixes every goal together.

What is the CPM on Meta in 2026?
CPM is the cost of a thousand views of your ad, and the most recent monthly figures we could verify sit around $8. Gupta Media, an ad agency, publishes a monthly tracker built from its own campaigns. It describes the data as tens of billions of ad impressions (Gupta Media).
| Period, Gupta Media tracker | Average Meta CPM | What it shows |
|---|---|---|
| Full year 2024 | $7.43 | The yearly average the tracker reports for 2024 |
| December 2024 | $10.83 | The dearest month in the table we read |
| January to September 2025 | $7.67 to $8.62 | The lowest and highest monthly averages in that span |
| September 2025 | $8.37 | The last full month in the table when we read it |
| Cyber Monday, December 2, 2024 | $17.70 | The dearest single day of 2024 |
Two limits apply. The monthly table ended at September 2025 when we read it in October 2026, so it is a year old. The page also does not say which countries the campaigns ran in. Use it for the shape of the year. Gupta Media says December is the most expensive month for Facebook and Instagram ads.
What moves the cost of Meta ads?
The auction does. Meta says each chance to show an ad is an auction, and the winner is the ad with the highest total value. That value combines three things (Meta Business Help Center):
- Your bid. What you are willing to pay for the result you chose.
- Estimated action rates. Meta’s estimate of how likely this person is to do what you want.
- Ad quality. Feedback from people who see or hide the ad, and checks for things like withheld information and engagement bait.
Meta adds that a more relevant ad can win an auction against ads with higher bids. So the creative is part of the price. A dull ad pays more for the same audience.
Three more things move your number in practice:
- The goal you pick. The benchmarks show a $0.60 click on traffic campaigns and a $1.80 click on leads campaigns.
- The time of year. In the Gupta Media tracker, December 2024 averaged $10.83 against $7.43 for the year.
- What counts as a lead. A lead form filled inside the app and a booked call are different things with different prices. If the numbers in Meta and in your analytics disagree, the Meta and GA4 conversion discrepancy post explains why.
What is the minimum sensible budget?
Meta’s help pages describe no single minimum for standard ads. Its cost page says only that some advanced ad types have a minimum spend, shown when you create the ad (Meta Business Help Center). The sensible floor comes from how the system learns.
Meta says an ad set usually leaves its learning phase after about 50 results in the week after its last significant edit (Meta Business Help Center). During learning, Meta says, ad sets are less stable and usually cost more per result. An ad set that cannot reach that count is labeled “Learning limited”.
The table below divides four monthly budgets by the $27.39 median cost per lead. It is our arithmetic on a published median, for one ad set.
| Monthly ad budget | Leads at $27.39 each | Leads a week | Against Meta’s 50 a week |
|---|---|---|---|
| $500 | 18 | About 4 | Well short |
| $1,000 | 36 | About 8 | Well short |
| $3,000 | 109 | About 25 | Half way |
| $6,000 | 219 | About 50 | Meets it |
A smaller budget still runs and can still pay for itself. You can also ask the campaign for a cheaper result. Meta’s own advice is that if you do not want to raise the budget, you can try a goal that is easier and cheaper to reach (Meta Business Help Center).
That same page gives one hard rule. If you bid with a cost per result goal, your daily budget should be at least five times that goal. A $25 target per lead needs a daily budget of at least $125.
For reference, the median monthly Meta Ads spend across AgencyAnalytics users’ client accounts was $784.33 in January 2025 (AgencyAnalytics). To size your own figure against the rest of your marketing, use the marketing budget calculator.

What do Meta ads management fees cost?
Management is priced the same way as search ads: a percentage of spend, a flat monthly fee, or a bundle across platforms. We could not find a recent survey of Meta management fees with a stated sample. The one named figure we can point to is from AgencyAnalytics.
Its pricing guide for agencies says most agencies price Meta Ads management much like Google Ads. They use a flat monthly fee, a percentage of ad spend that is typically 10 to 15 percent, or a bundled service (AgencyAnalytics). The guide was published on July 17, 2025 and is built on interviews with agency owners. It describes common practice and is not a measured average.
On a $3,000 monthly budget, 10 to 15 percent is $300 to $450. That is arithmetic on the published range, not a quote. Creative is the line to ask about, because photos and video are a real cost on Meta and some fees include them and some do not.

Is Meta cheaper than Google Ads?
Per lead, the published medians say yes. The same publisher puts the median search ad lead at $66.69 and the median Facebook lead at $27.39 in 2026. The two are not the same kind of lead.
A search ad reaches someone who typed what they want. A Facebook or Instagram ad reaches someone who was doing something else. In the 2026 benchmarks, dental leads cost $61.56 on Facebook and $72.97 on search, which is a much smaller gap than the overall medians suggest. The full search figures are in how much Google Ads cost in 2026 and the Google Ads cost per lead benchmarks.
The fair comparison is cost per customer. Count how many leads from each platform turned into paying work, and divide the spend by that.
The bottom line
Facebook and Instagram ads cost what the auction charges for the result you asked for. Pick the goal first, because a click, a lead and a sale carry different prices. Then set a budget that gives the system enough results to learn from, and judge it on customers won. The published medians are a starting point for the arithmetic. They are not a target.
Questions people ask about this
How much does it cost to advertise on Facebook for a small business?
It costs whatever budget you set. As a guide, the median monthly Meta Ads spend across AgencyAnalytics client accounts was $784.33 in January 2025. At the 2026 median of $27.39 a lead, that buys about 28 leads a month. Your own figure depends on your industry and on what you count as a lead.
Do Instagram ads cost more than Facebook ads?
The sources used here do not split the two. Meta sells both through one auction and one account, and the LocaliQ benchmarks and the Gupta Media tracker both report Facebook and Instagram together. In practice you choose placements in the same ad set and Meta spreads the budget, so the combined cost is the number to manage.
What is a good CPM on Meta?
There is no single good figure. In Gupta Media’s tracker, Meta’s monthly average CPM ran from $7.67 to $8.62 between January and September 2025, and reached $10.83 in December 2024. A higher CPM can still be the better buy if those views turn into leads at a lower cost.
Why did my Facebook ad costs go up?
Check three things. The season, because ad prices rise toward the end of the year and peaked on Cyber Monday in 2024. Recent edits, because a significant edit sends the ad set back into the learning phase, where Meta says costs are usually higher. And the ad itself, because ad quality is part of the auction.
How long should I run a Meta ad before judging it?
At least until it leaves the learning phase. Meta says that usually takes about 50 results in the week after the last significant edit, and that results during learning do not reliably show future performance. If the ad set is labeled “Learning limited”, judge it over a longer period and avoid editing it while you wait.
Is boosting a post the same as running an ad?
It is a simpler way to buy the same ads. Meta lists four places to buy them: your Facebook Page, your Instagram profile, Ads Manager and Meta Business Suite. Meta says buying from the Page is the simplest route and has fewer options than Ads Manager. For lead campaigns, Ads Manager gives you the goal and budget controls this post describes.
Should I hire someone to manage Meta ads?
Hire when the time or the creative is the limit. One published guide puts management at a flat monthly fee or 10 to 15 percent of spend. On a very small budget that fee can be a large share of the total, so learning the basics yourself may be the better first step.
Does the ad budget include the management fee?
No. The budget is paid to Meta for showing the ads, and the fee is paid to whoever runs the account. Ask for both as separate lines, and ask whether photos and video are included. If you need help working out what a lead is worth before setting either figure, the lead generation page covers how that is measured.
