Cleaning company SEO

Cleaning company SEO that ranks the contract pages, not just the word cleaning

Your site ranks for house cleaning in your own town and the phone rings with one-off jobs. The office manager two miles away typed janitorial services for a 12,000 square foot office and never saw you. The page she needed does not exist on your site yet.

What cleaning buyers type, and why one page cannot answer all of it

A homeowner types “house cleaning service near me” or “move out cleaning cost”. A facilities manager types “janitorial services for office building” or “commercial cleaning company with day porter”. A practice manager types “medical office cleaning” and wants to read about bloodborne pathogen training.

Those are three buyers with three sets of words. A single page headed Cleaning Services tends to rank for the shortest of them, which is the one-off domestic job. The cleaning services marketing page explains why the contract work matters more. This page is about how the site gets found for it.

Write down the searches before any page is built. Our keyword research guide shows how to sort them by the job they lead to.

Four things show up when we read a cleaning company site against the searches above.

  • The trade words are missing. Commercial buyers say janitorial, custodial, day porter and floor care. A site that only says cleaning has no page for those words.
  • Proof sits in a PDF. The insurance certificate, background check policy and training records are what a commercial buyer checks. In a download, Google and the buyer both miss them.
  • City pages are copies. Forty pages that swap the town name are what Google calls doorway abuse in its spam policies.
  • Quote forms do not ask the job type. So nobody can say which page produced a contract and which produced a single visit.

The pages a cleaning company needs

Each row is a page with its own search, its own proof and its own form.

You do not need all seven. Build the ones for work you want more of, and leave the rest as a short section on a general page.

What the work looks like, month by month

Month one. You get a baseline you can read: which searches the site appears for today, which pages Google has indexed, and what is technically in the way. The quote form gains a job type field, so calls and forms can be sorted by commercial, recurring and one-off.

Months two and three. The sector pages are written, each with the proof that buyer asks for. Service area pages are cut to the towns you staff. Titles are rewritten to say the thing searched, which Google’s SEO starter guide describes as unique, clear and accurate.

Month four onward. Pages that reach page two get more depth and internal links. Questions that buyers ask on walk-throughs become short articles. Local trade bodies, suppliers and building managers you already work with are asked for a link.

Google says in that same starter guide that some changes take effect in a few hours and others take several months. Plan on the slower end for a new sector page. Our post on how long SEO takes sets out what moves when.

What cleaning company SEO costs

Mavix quotes after a free review of your site, because the price depends on how many pages need building. There is no Mavix price on this page.

For a sense of the market, Ahrefs surveyed 439 SEO providers and found an average of $2,917 a month (Ahrefs SEO pricing survey). Agencies averaged $3,209 and freelancers $1,348. The most common retainer band in that survey was $501 to $1,000 a month. Those figures cover every kind of client. They are not a cleaning benchmark.

Three things move the price for a cleaning company:

  1. How many sectors you sell to. Each one is a page, a form and a set of proof to gather.
  2. How many towns you staff. A single city is a smaller job than a metro with six crews.
  3. The state of the current site. A site that cannot be edited has to be fixed or replaced first.

How it is counted for a cleaning company

Rankings are reported, and they are not the score. You get these numbers each month:

  • Quote requests by job type: commercial, recurring domestic, one-off.
  • Walk-throughs booked from organic search.
  • Contracts signed and their monthly value, where you share it with us.
  • Which page each of those started on.

A commercial contract can take weeks to sign. Our rule of thumb is to judge a sector page on walk-throughs booked over a quarter, and to avoid judging it on any single month.

When SEO is the wrong first move

If you need crews filled this month, start with Google Ads for cleaning companies. Ads can be live in days and switched off when the schedule is full.

If people search your name and find no map listing, start with local SEO for cleaning companies. The Business Profile decides who appears in the map results, and a home-based cleaning firm has rules to follow there.

If your site was built on a template you cannot change, fix that before paying anyone for search work. Advice that cannot be put on the page earns nothing.

Once those are in hand, SEO is the part that keeps working after the ad budget stops. Send the site and we will say which sector pages we would build first.

Questions

Questions owners ask about this

01 How long does SEO take for a cleaning company?
Google says some changes take effect in a few hours and others take several months. A new sector page on an established site can move within weeks. A new site in a large metro should plan in quarters, and paid search can cover the gap.
02 Should a cleaning company have one page per city?
Only where you staff that city and can say something true about working there. Google lists near identical pages aimed at different cities as doorway abuse in its spam policies. Five real pages beat forty copies.
03 Do we need separate pages for office, medical and school cleaning?
Yes, if you want those contracts. An office manager and a practice manager type different words and check different things. Each page should show the insurance, vetting and hours that buyer asks about before a walk-through.
04 What does cleaning company SEO cost?
Mavix quotes after a free review of the site, so there is no price on this page. For context, a survey of 439 SEO providers published by Ahrefs found an average of 2,917 dollars a month across all kinds of client.
05 Can SEO bring commercial contracts, or only house cleaning jobs?
Both, from different pages. Commercial searches are fewer and each is worth far more, because a contract renews. The site has to give those searches their own pages and their own quote form, so they can be counted apart.
06 When is SEO the wrong first move for a cleaning company?
When you need work this month, or when the Google Business Profile is unclaimed or unverified. Fix the profile first and use ads for speed. Search work pays back later and for longer.
