Dallas is one city inside a metro of 8.4 million

Dallas had 1,329,491 residents on July 1, 2025, which makes it the ninth largest US city (Census Bureau). The Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metro had 8,477,157, after adding 123,557 people in a year (Census Bureau). Only Houston gained more.

So the city is about 16 percent of the metro, on our arithmetic from those two figures. Five of every six people who could hire you live outside the Dallas city limits.

The business count follows the same shape. The Census Bureau counted 189,739 employer establishments in the metro in 2023, with 3,594,749 paid employees (County Business Patterns). Of those, 103,707 had fewer than five employees. That is the size of firm you compete with for a local search.

The suburbs and neighbourhoods Dallas searchers type

Inside the city, people search by neighbourhood: Uptown, Oak Lawn, Deep Ellum, Bishop Arts, Lakewood, Preston Hollow, Oak Cliff and Lake Highlands. North of the city they search by suburb, and several of those suburbs are large cities in their own right.

PlaceResidents, July 2025CountyWhat that means for your pages
Fort Worth1,028,117TarrantA second market. Needs its own pages and its own profile if you have an address there
Arlington402,134TarrantSits between the two cities and is searched by name
Plano293,028CollinLarge enough for its own service page
Irving257,076DallasIncludes Las Colinas, which people type as a place
Garland249,625DallasEast side, close enough to share a Dallas address
Frisco236,955Collin and DentonGrew from 202,749 in 2020
McKinney236,001CollinGrew from 197,507 in 2020

Populations are from the Census Bureau’s city and town estimates. The last column is our reading. Before you write a page for a suburb, open Search Console, which is Google’s free report of the searches your site appears for. Check whether the suburb name already shows up there. The Texas local SEO steps cover the order to do this in.

What Dallas-Fort Worth employs people in

The metro had 4,353,400 nonfarm jobs in July 2026 (Bureau of Labor Statistics). Trade, transportation and utilities was the largest group at 895,000. Professional and business services followed at 805,200, and grew by 23,500 in a year. Financial activities employed 389,400.

For a marketing budget, that mix points to two kinds of buyer. One is the household that needs a trade: the same summary shows 273,500 jobs in mining, logging and construction. Our pages on HVAC marketing and roofing cover those. The other is the company buying from another company, where a sale takes weeks. Financial services marketing is the page for that.

Why a Dallas click costs what it does

No public source prices a click for Dallas alone. The national 2026 benchmark puts home improvement searches at $8.33 a click and $90.92 a lead, and legal at $9.87 a click (LocaliQ). Your own figure is in Google’s Keyword Planner, set to the zip codes you serve.

Two things push the Dallas figure up, in our reading. Wages are one. The average weekly wage across the area was $1,785 in early 2026 against $1,654 nationally, on the same BLS summary. Jobs are worth more, so firms bid more for them. Size is the other. A campaign set to the whole metro reaches four large counties, and a click from 40 miles away is a job you may not want.

One thing holds it down. The metro has about 23 employer establishments per 1,000 residents, on our arithmetic from the Census figures above. That is the lowest of the large metros we have worked this out for except San Antonio.

Texas rules that affect what you can advertise

Texas licenses some trades at state level. Air conditioning and heating contractors need a licence from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which also licenses electricians. Plumbers go through the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners. Google asks for a licence, or a business registration where no licence applies, before Local Services Ads go live. Our comparison of Local Services Ads and Google Ads for Texas trades has the detail.

On privacy, the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act took effect on July 1, 2024. Small businesses as the federal Small Business Administration defines them are generally exempt, with an exception for selling sensitive data (Texas Attorney General). Check which side of that line you are on before adding tracking to a site.

How we work with a Dallas business from Los Angeles

Our US office is in Los Angeles. We have no office in Dallas, no staff there and no named Dallas clients to show you. The work is done remotely: video calls, shared documents, and access to accounts that stay in your name.

It starts with the free review. You send the site. We read your Search Console, separate searches for your own name from everything else, and check that a page exists for each thing you sell. You get that in writing. If you run ads, the spend is billed by Google to your own card.

After that, SEO and local SEO work runs against a baseline measured in your own accounts in week one. Google Ads is added where the searches exist. We also work with businesses in Austin the same way, and the full list is on the locations page.

What to ask any agency before you hire one in Dallas

  • Ask which suburbs they would build pages for, and why those. An answer that lists 30 suburbs on day one is a template.
  • Ask whether Dallas and Fort Worth would be reported separately. They are different counties with different results.
  • Ask who owns the Google Business Profile, the ad account and the site if you leave.
  • Ask to see a report they sent a client last month, and count the lines about calls and booked jobs.
  • Ask whether they have an office in Dallas, and whether it matters to you. We do not, and we say so.

You can price the upside yourself before any call with the SEO ROI calculator. The page on how SEO pricing is set lists what moves a quote.

Questions

Questions owners ask about this

01 Does Mavix have an office in Dallas?
No. Our only US office is in Los Angeles. We work with Dallas businesses by video call, shared documents and access to your own Search Console and ad accounts. We have no staff and no named clients in Dallas.
02 How big is the Dallas search market?
The city had 1,329,491 residents in July 2025 and the metro had 8,477,157, on Census Bureau estimates. County Business Patterns counted 189,739 employer establishments across the metro in 2023.
03 Should my site target Dallas or my suburb?
Start with the city your address is in. Google lists distance from the searcher as a local ranking factor, so a Frisco address competes in Frisco first. Dallas-wide pages come second, and only where you have real work to show.
04 Which Texas trades need a state licence before advertising?
Electricians and air conditioning contractors are licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Plumbers are licensed by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners. Google also asks for a licence before Local Services Ads go live.
05 What does SEO cost for a Dallas business?
We do not publish a price, because the figure depends on what your site already has. You get a number in writing after the free review, attached to a scope you can read.
06 Is Fort Worth the same market as Dallas?
For search, no. Fort Worth has more than a million residents of its own and sits in a different county. Someone searching there sees Fort Worth businesses first, so treat it as a second market with its own pages and profile.
